Breakfast is the most important meal of the day-- there, I said it. Back in my (ehem) younger years, I would refuse to agree to this statement since I loved to eat dinner. I preferred staying up late so I could go to parties and some gigs. But after a few years, I've come to enjoy breakfast more than dinner. I've realized that breakfast was a more enjoyable experience since I got to have time for myself and gather my thoughts before a busy day unfolds. I particularly love frequenting a relaxing cafe where I would (hopefully) have the place to myself and not have to worry about the crowd of hungry diners rushing to finish their meals.
Breakfast, for my hubby and I, has become an intimate moment; since we started as breakfast buddies in the office. On our weekends away from work, we would try to explore the breakfast places in Cebu. And whenever we can, we try to look for a new cafe we could recommend to our visiting friends. Other than the usual fastfood places, hotel lounges, and buffet places, here are some of our favorite breakfast places where you can enjoy a quiet and unrushed breakfast:
M+S Cafe has a beautiful interior design embellished with the use of natural wood and fresh planters. They don't have air conditioning but there is enough air that circulates around the small cafe. What you'll enjoy most about this cafe is the fact that they have reasonable prices.
M+S Cafe Location: Mabolo Garden Flats, Tres Borces St., Mabolo, Cebu City For inquiries, call: (032) 263-1634 Operating hours: Monday to Saturday (closed on Sundays) 7:00 AM - 9:00 PM
Yolk Coffee and Breakfast
Just a few steps away from M+S Cafe is where you'll find Yolk Coffee and Breakfast. It's not really a brand new establishment since it's been in business since 2015. I haven't been able to blog about it because we were pretty busy last year while we prepared for our upcoming wedding. But you'll enjoy Yolk for its interesting interior and the dishes are somewhat large enough to share.
Yolk Coffee and Breakfast Location: 80 Tres Borces Street, Mabolo, Cebu City (beside Bread After Bread/Barbecue Boss) For inquiries, call: (032) 231-0411

Birdseed Breakfast Club + Cafe

If you're trying to eat healthy and looking for brown rice, Birdseed Breakfast Club + Cafe is the right place to head to. I particularly enjoy the combination of their Mom's Beef Tapa Silog, which comes with perfectly cooked brown rice, sous vide eggs, and their signature beef tapa. On another occasion, I got to try their Spanish Chorizo Silog. They can get pretty pricey though but if you're planning on eating a hearty brunch, this is a good destination. Birdseed Breakfast Club + Cafe Location: Unit F19, Axis Entertainment Avenue, N. Escario Street, Cebu City For inquiries, call: (032) 254 9463

La Vie Parisienne
Ah, La Vie Parisienne; the cafe that launched a thousand tweets and Facebook check ins. Kidding aside, this place has been my go-to option when everything else fails. It comes fully alive at night, where everyone indulges in a glass or a full bottle of wine paired with some delectable cheeses. But for me, the secret is visiting the cafe at the crack of dawn. I love going to La Vie early in the morning. It's the only time of day I can fully enjoy the establishment while taking my time to indulge in a cup of their delicious brewed coffee, pain au chocolat and croissants.
Location: 371 Gorordo Avenue, Lahug, Cebu City For inquiries, call: 0933 972 9995
10 Dove Street
10 Dove Street is one of the most relaxing places in Cebu where you can eat in solace, no matter what time you eat. The food is never rushed and you get to enjoy each and every bite you take. We're usually fond of visiting 10 DC for desserts but whenever we can, we head over to enjoy a quiet and scrumptious breakfast before going about our day's errands. The ambiance and relaxed nature of the restaurant makes you feel like you're on a vacation instead of being on your rest day.
10 Dove Street Location: Oakridge Business Park, 880 A.S. Fortuna St., Mandaue City For inquiries, call: (032) 418 1010 or (032) 318 3674 or 0917 625 7013

I know I have a picture of Abaca Baking Company somewhere but I still have to look for them in my files. Since I don't have a decent picture I can find, I borrowed some from their Facebook and Instagram #AbacaBakingCompany posts.
It's good to know that Abaca Baking Company now has several branches throughout the city. They have done so to properly accommodate their customers who are looking for a hearty breakfast they can enjoy. The Abaca Baking Company has a selection of freshly baked bread and some usual breakfast food like Eggs Benedict, Pancakes, and many more.
Out of all the establishments on this list, Mehl & Zucker is the one I frequent the most. Yet it's very surprising that I have never blogged about them and even have a picture. But I have a good reason for it: I consider Mehl & Zucker as my secret escape, my go-to place when I want a place all to myself where I can enjoy their coffee, food, and fast Wi-Fi. The cafe is not expensive and it has this French chic vibe to it that makes you feel at home. The staff is friendly all the time.
But a good reason why I enjoy Mehl & Zucker the most is because of their Baguettes-- they are fluffy and full but never airy.

Camden Cafe is one of my recent finds. I actually heard about this place from a few of my friends. But the person who convinced me to finally go was Brennan of BaktinCorporation. After seeing his blog post on the cafe, I was keen on going but could never find the right time. So last week, I took advantage of the opportunity when I had to go see a doctor at Chong Hua Medical Arts Building. I was in the area for two consecutive days so I was able to visit the cafe twice in one week. I particularly loved their hipster vibe and their relaxing music. It kind of reminded me of another favorite establishment of mine, Bintana. Bintana is Camden's big brother (or should I say sister). They both share the same laid back ambiance and soothing song selections, except that Bintana doesn't have a hipster vibe to it. I'll be posting a more detailed review of Camden pretty soon.
