The Cebuanos love their barbecue. As a matter of fact, it is one of their prized dishes and recommended food fare for their friends visiting from out of town. And with so many different barbecue places to choose from, there's no need to wonder why barbecue is such a popular option. In fact, when you visit these barbecue places, you'll be surprised to find that they are packed with diners both from the local community and travelers. With options like Larsian and Matias, there's never a shortage of barbecue joints in the city.
Ned Nanay's Grill is just one of the many barbecue joints in Cebu that attract the right kind of people. We first saw the place when we dined on the restaurant across it a year ago and was surprised at how big the barbecue place has grown. From my memory, the area used to serve as a parking space. But now, the whole area has been converted into an open-air barbecue capable of serving a huge group of diners.
It's a surprise for me to discover that not too many people have heard of Ned Nanay's as much as the other barbecue places in the city. As a matter of fact, they have been reported to have started as a small carenderia since 1997. I feel like they have not been given the right exposure as they are easily one of the best barbecue places I enjoy dining at.
Here are some of the reasons why Ned Nanay's Grill is one of my favorites:
1. They have a lot of choices
One of the reasons why I love to eat at Ned Nanay's is because all my favorite barbecue parts are there-- pak-pak (chicken wings), tinae (intestines), chorizo, and many more.
2. The sauce is delicious
If you've eaten at Yakski before, you'll know what to expect from the sauce Ned Nanay's uses for their barbecue. It's not the typical ketchup-based sauce used in a lot of local barbecues here in Cebu.
3. Affordable prices
When we eat there, we typically spend less than P200-- this already includes our drinks, rice, and the grilled food.
4. Plenty of seating
There's a lot of tables and chairs available for customers. Usually though, Ned Nanay's is packed with diners so you may want to wait for an available table.
5. They offer live acoustic music and sometimes broadcast games on TV
On a Sunday, we were able to visit Ned Nanay's and an acoustic band was serenading the diners. On another night, a Saturday, we went there to find diners enjoying a game of basketball on TV.
6. They arrange boodle fights
I haven't encountered this personally but based on my research, this is something you can have them take care of. If you're interested, you can give them a call to learn more.
With these reasons, Ned Nanay's is easily one of my favorite barbecue places in the city. Perhaps, the only downside is that there is limited parking.
